May 22, 1944, In a fight with Me-109s, he was attacking 3 when his aircraft (QP-F, 43-7158) was raked accidentily with gunfire from one of a group of P-38s also in the fight, puncturing his Glycol system. His section escorted him to Laaland, Denmark and broke off as he headed for Sweden. He belly landed at Kalmar and was interned. He returned to Debden June 28, 1944 but did not return to combat
